BodyKit X NYU Hackathon

April 7, 2015 BodyKit X NYU Hackathon

We had a great time hosting our first hackathon at NYU’s elab.  The students blew us away with their creativity, vision, and innovations, which ranged from a 3D viewer, to a health and fitness app, to a platform to practice and learn new dance moves.

WHAT WAS BUILT

MoveMe

The winner of our hackathon is an app that serves as your personal dance teacher, supplementing the in-class experience. The creators envisioned the workflow of the app as 1) choose the dance step you want to learn/improve, 2) view your animated body model demonstrating how you currently perform the step, 3) receive corrections on how to improve your technique, and then 4) see your body model correctly doing the step.

Applications for this technology exist beyond dance — for example, the app can be adapted for the instruction of yoga or martial arts.

Motivate

Motivate is a social media fitness app that enables users to discover the best fitness and diet regime for their specific body shape.  In the app, users can set their goals, view progress via the heatmapping of their body models, and receive workout recs from people who have the same body shapes.

Scan Me

Scan Me built a layer of usability on top of BodyKit’s core features by creating a more developed UI and incorporating Sketchfab’s 3D visualizers to streamline the measurement input to 3D body model process.  In two simple steps, measurements are entered and the generated 3D body model can be viewed in Sketchfab.

VIT

VIT makes it affordable to have your own trainer and nutritionist, providing personalized workouts and meals that work around your lifestyle and goals.  With the help of full-body scanners installed in your local gym, the app will create a body model, and using BodyKit’s body-to-body comparision technology, make diet and nutrition recommendations based on your progress.

Thanks to everyone who participated!  Your ideas were so inspiring and we can’t wait to share upcoming BodyKit features with you.
